Find and focus on map content
Find an idea quickly, mark its progress, and temporarily dim content that is not relevant to your current view.
Search the current map
- Select Search notes… in the map header. You can also press Command+F on macOS or Ctrl+F on Windows or Linux while the canvas is active.
- Enter one or more words.
Matching ideas remain clear and other ideas become dim. The counter shows your current result and the total number of matches.
Search checks the current map's idea text, Jira keys and summaries shown on the map, web-link addresses and descriptions, domains, and badges. It does not search other maps, folders, or Jira itself.
Move between search results
- Press Enter or select Next match to move to the next result.
- Press Shift+Enter or select Previous match to move to the previous result.
Mind Map Studio moves the canvas to the active result and marks it with a highlight. Navigation returns to the first result after the last one.
Find content inside a collapsed branch
When a match is inside a collapsed branch, Mind Map Studio expands the necessary parent branches so that you can see it.
Clearing the search does not collapse those branches again. Collapse them manually if you want to restore the earlier view.
Clear the search
Select Clear search, or press Escape while the search field is active. Every idea returns to its normal appearance.
Track an idea's progress on the map
- Select an idea.
- Choose one of the progress labels in the toolbar above the canvas:
- To do
- In progress
- Stalled
- Done
The colored status dot on the idea changes to match your selection. New ideas start as To do.
These progress labels belong to the mind map. Changing one does not transition a Jira issue or change its Jira workflow status.
Rename the visible progress labels
You can replace the four visible labels with wording that suits your work while keeping their underlying categories.
- Select More actions in the map header.
- Select Status names.
- Enter a Custom Display Name beside any label you want to change.
- Select Save Changes.
Leave a field blank to use its default name. Use Reset to default for one label or Reset all to default for all four.
The custom names are a preference for your account. They change how Mind Map Studio displays the categories, not the category rules or Jira statuses.
Focus on one or several progress states
- Select Filter in the map header.
- Under Statuses, select the progress state you want to see.
- Select more states if you want to focus on several at once.
Ideas in the selected states remain clear. Other ideas and their connections become dim. Selecting a dimmed idea makes that idea clear while it is selected.
The number beside each state shows how many visible ideas currently use it.
Focus on a relationship type
Relationship filters appear only while the current view has labeled relationships. Relationship labels are not retained after reopening the map in the current release.
- Select Filter in the map header.
- Under Relationships, select a preset relationship type or Custom.
Ideas at either end of a matching relationship remain clear. Unrelated ideas and connections become dim.
You can combine progress and relationship filters. An idea must match the active focus choices to remain clear.
Clear focus filters
Select the X beside the active Filter, or select Clear status filter inside the filter menu.
Clearing filters restores the normal view. It does not change an idea's saved progress or any relationship label currently shown on the canvas.
Check the result
Search and focus are working when:
- The result counter matches the ideas you expect to find.
- Next and previous controls move to different matches.
- Selected progress states or relationships remain clear while unrelated content is dimmed.
- Clearing the controls restores the complete map view.
Good to know
- Search and focus filters help you view the map; they do not hide or delete saved ideas.
- Progress is saved on each map idea but is not synchronized to Jira workflow status.
- Custom progress names change display text for your account; they do not create new progress states.
- Exporting a PNG while progress filters are active exports the focused view and adds a progress-state suffix to the filename.
Fix a problem
Search shows No matches
Try a shorter word and check the spelling. The search runs only inside the open map.
A relationship does not appear under Filter
Add a preset or custom label to the connection first. Unlabeled connections are not listed as relationship filters.
A Jira issue did not change status
This is expected. Map progress is independent of Jira workflow status. Open the Jira issue when you need to transition it in Jira.
