Fix Jira issue problems
Solve common problems while browsing, creating, or connecting Jira issues in Mind Map Studio.
The Jira issue list does not load
Read the message in Jira backlog:
- You do not have permission to view Jira issues for this project. Ask a Jira administrator for project access.
- Jira is temporarily rate limiting backlog requests. Wait, then select Try again.
- Jira is temporarily unavailable. Wait, then select Refresh Jira backlog.
- Jira issues could not be loaded. Your existing results were not replaced. You can still see older results, but they may not be current.
Do not treat previously loaded results as refreshed until the warning clears.
An issue does not appear
- Confirm that the issue belongs to the Jira project where Mind Map Studio is open.
- Clear Search issues… and the issue-type and Status: filters.
- Change Created: from 7d to 14d or 30d.
- Select Refresh Jira backlog.
The panel shows up to 60 recently updated issues created within the selected period. It is not a complete project search.
A Jira project does not appear
The project picker is limited to projects available to your Jira account for issue creation.
Confirm that you can open the project and create an issue there in Jira. Ask a Jira administrator if the project should be available. You can also select Open Jira create dialog and confirm the project in Jira's form.
An issue type does not appear
Issue types come from the selected Jira project.
- Confirm the destination project at the top of Create Jira issue.
- Reopen the issue-type list.
- Check whether that issue type can be created in the project in Jira.
If the type is available only through a Jira-specific workflow, use Open Jira create dialog.
Jira requires additional fields
Complete every field under Required Jira fields:.
Mind Map Studio supports the required fields it shows, including supported text and single-choice fields. If the dialog says that required fields are supported only in Jira, select Open Jira create dialog.
An issue created through Jira's form is not automatically connected to the map. If it belongs to the current project, add it later from Jira backlog. For another project, keep its key and continue in Jira; the current project's list cannot attach it.
A proposed parent is not available
Mind Map Studio checks only the idea's immediate map parent.
- Confirm that the immediate parent shows a Jira key.
- Create or add that parent issue first if needed.
- Reopen the child idea's Create Jira issue dialog.
A Jira-linked ancestor farther up the branch is not used when the direct parent is an ordinary idea.
Jira rejects a parent relationship
Review the child issue type, parent issue type, and destination project.
- Choose a compatible child type.
- Use the project required by the hierarchy.
- Clear Link as child of parent key when the issue may be created independently.
- For a Sub-task, create or choose a compatible standard parent first.
Jira's project hierarchy is the final authority even when the map suggests a parent.
Some issues were created and others failed
When Mind Map Studio shows Created successful of total Jira issues:
- Keep the Jira keys shown on successful rows.
- Do not submit successful rows again.
- Review the project, issue type, summary, priority, and parent on each failed row.
- Correct a known problem, then submit only the remaining failed rows.
Successful ideas become Jira-linked cards. Failed ideas remain ordinary map ideas.
Jira did not confirm the result
An uncertain result is different from a confirmed failed row. A network or Jira response problem can make the outcome unclear.
- Do not immediately repeat the request.
- Open each destination Jira project.
- Search for the proposed summaries and check recently created issues.
- Return to Mind Map Studio only after you know which issues exist.
If an issue in the current project exists but is not connected to the map, add it from Jira backlog. For an issue in another project, keep the key and open it in Jira; the current project's recent-issue list cannot recover that attachment. Retry only the issues that you have confirmed were not created.
A created issue is not connected to the expected idea
The issue can be created in Jira even when the map attachment was off or the map could not be changed afterward.
- Keep the confirmed Jira key.
- Make sure the map is editable and no save or conflict warning is visible.
- Open Jira backlog and refresh it.
- Select the intended parent idea and add the issue from its card.
Adding the existing issue creates a new Jira-linked map card. It does not change the Jira issue.
These steps work only when the issue belongs to the current Jira project. Jira backlog does not browse another project's issues.
You do not have permission to create issues
Choose another destination project or ask a Jira administrator for permission to create the selected issue type in that project.
Project access and issue-creation permission are separate. Being able to view a project does not always mean you can create issues in it.
Jira is rate limiting or temporarily unavailable
Wait before trying again. Do not repeatedly submit a creation request while its outcome is unknown.
For the recent-issue list, use Try again or Refresh Jira backlog after waiting. For issue creation, check Jira for an existing issue before you retry.
Continue in Jira
Use Jira when you need:
- A required field that Mind Map Studio does not show.
- A project-specific create workflow.
- To edit an existing issue's Jira fields or workflow status.
- To confirm a parent relationship.
- To investigate an uncertain creation result.
Select Open Jira create dialog for a new issue, or select an issue key on the map to open an existing issue.
