# Solve common problems

Use these checks for problems with the Mind Map Studio workspace, maps, saving, preferences, and exports.

Before reloading or closing the page, check the save status. Only **Saved** confirms that the active map changes reached Atlassian Cloud.

## Mind Map Studio does not load

1. Confirm that the rest of the Jira project loads.
2. Reload the Jira page once.
3. Confirm that Mind Map Studio is installed for the site and available in this project.
4. Ask a Jira administrator to check your project access if the app is missing from the navigation.

If a dialog says it could not be loaded, check your connection and select **Try again**. You do not need to reload the whole map for a single dialog failure.

## Mind Map Studio stopped unexpectedly

Select **Reload last cloud version** to reopen the app. Only changes already confirmed by Atlassian Cloud are guaranteed after reload; changes that were still saving may be lost.

If the problem returns, record what you were doing immediately before the error and use a support option instead of repeating the same action.

## The workspace is unavailable

**Workspace unavailable** means the app could not verify or load the current Jira project workspace. It does not replace the project with an empty workspace or send new changes.

1. Copy the error code shown in the message.
2. Confirm that you can still browse the Jira project.
3. Select **Reload** once.
4. If the same code returns, include it when asking for help.

## A map is unavailable

1. Select the map again from the sidebar.
2. Confirm that you are still in the Jira project that contains it.
3. Confirm that the map was not deleted and that your project or map access has not changed.
4. Reload only after any other open map shows **Saved**.

The app does not create a blank replacement when the authoritative graph cannot be loaded.

## A map opens as read-only

The message **Project map · read-only** means you can view the map but cannot save map changes with the current account.

- Confirm that you opened the intended map and project.
- If you need changes, ask the account that created the map to make them. Project-wide maps remain creator-edited in this release.
- Do not make important changes in a read-only view; they will not be saved to the map.

## A folder, map, or canvas action is missing

1. Select a map and, for idea actions, select an idea.
2. Check **More actions** if the header is narrow.
3. Confirm that the map is not read-only.
4. For **Move to…**, confirm that another folder exists.

Actions such as **Edit**, **Move to…**, **Delete**, Jira creation, and canvas styling appear only when the current account and map support them.

## Changes cannot be saved

Keep the tab open. Use the action shown in the canvas banner:

- Select **Retry save** for a retained, retryable draft.
- Select **Discard draft** only if you accept losing the unsaved changes.
- Select **Discard draft & reload** when the draft conflicts with a newer cloud version or the server rejected it.

See [Save, recover, and export your work](./saving-and-exporting.md) before discarding anything important.

## The app is offline

Mind Map Studio has no durable offline map storage.

1. Keep the current browser tab open.
2. Restore your internet connection.
3. Wait for the status to become **Saved**.

If the page says **Offline · editing paused**, editing resumes only after the connection returns. A **Not saved — offline** draft may be lost if you close or reload the tab.

## The cloud version changed

Another browser tab or editing session saved a newer revision of the map. Mind Map Studio does not merge simultaneous edits.

1. Export a PNG if you need a visual record of the draft.
2. Select **Discard draft & reload**.
3. Continue from the newer cloud version.

Avoid editing the same map in several places at the same time.

## PNG export does not finish

1. Wait until **Exporting…** disappears.
2. Confirm that at least one idea is visible.
3. Check whether your browser blocked the download.
4. Select **Export as PNG** again.

If **Export failed. Please try again** returns, include the map size, active filters, browser, and a screenshot when asking for help.

## A language preference is not saved

Mind Map Studio restores the last saved language when a new selection cannot be stored.

1. Check your connection.
2. Open **More actions** > **Language**.
3. Choose the language again, or select **Use Jira language**.

The failure affects the interface language, not the map content.

## A theme preference is not saved

If theme settings cannot be loaded, the default theme remains active. If a change cannot be saved, the last saved theme preference is restored.

1. Check your connection.
2. Open **More actions** > **Preset themes**.
3. Choose the theme again.

Use **Auto (Jira Sync)** if you want the workspace to follow Jira's current light or dark appearance.
