# Embed and explore a mind map in Confluence

> **Publication hold:** Do not publish or use this guide as an access guarantee yet. The current macro selector does not show or filter map visibility, and its fallback data path still needs an authorization fix and adversarial verification. The steps below are retained as an internal draft for the verified flow after that gate is closed.

Place a Jira mind map on a Confluence page so readers can explore it without editing the map.

This draft is intended for project-wide maps only. The current selector does not identify which listed maps are private or project-wide.

## Before you start

You need:

- Permission to edit the Confluence page.
- Access to browse the Jira project that contains the map.
- Mind Map Studio available in both Jira and Confluence.
- A project-wide mind map in that Jira project.

Open the map in Jira before embedding it and wait until it shows **Saved**. This also prepares older maps that were created before Confluence integration was available.

## Add the Mind Map Studio macro

1. Create or edit a Confluence page.
2. Place the cursor where you want the map.
3. Type `/Mind Map Studio`.
4. Select **Mind Map Studio** from the macro results.

The macro configuration opens.

## Choose the Jira project

1. Open **Jira Project**.
2. Select the project that contains the map.

The list contains Jira projects available to the current account. If the project is missing, confirm that you can browse it in Jira.

## Choose the mind map

1. Wait for the map list to load.
2. After the publication hold is resolved, select a map that you independently confirmed as project-wide in Jira.

Each map card shows its title, idea count, and last updated date. It does not currently show visibility. If the list is empty, open Mind Map Studio in Jira and create or prepare a map first.

## Set the viewer height

Use **Embed Display Height** to choose how much vertical space the viewer uses on the page.

- Drag the slider between **300px** and **1000px**.
- Or choose **400px**, **500px**, **650px**, or **800px**.

You can change the height later without replacing the map.

## Embed and publish the map

1. Select **Embed Mind Map**.
2. Review the viewer in the Confluence editor.
3. Publish the new page, or update an existing page.

The published macro is a read-only viewer. It loads the selected map from Jira when the Confluence page opens; it is not a simultaneous editing session.

## Move around the read-only map

- Drag the blank canvas to move across the map.
- Scroll or pinch to zoom.
- Use **Zoom In**, **Zoom Out**, and **Fit View** for precise navigation.
- Select an idea to focus on it.
- Use **Open link** on a link card to visit its web address.

Readers cannot create, rename, move, or delete ideas in the Confluence viewer. Jira issue creation and the Jira issue drawer are also unavailable there.

## Update map content shown in Confluence

1. Open the map in Mind Map Studio in Jira.
2. Make the change.
3. Wait until the Jira map shows **Saved**.
4. Reload the Confluence page.

You do not need to edit or republish the Confluence page when only the saved map content changes. The viewer does not update continuously while the page remains open.

## Change the embedded map or height

1. Edit the Confluence page.
2. Select the Mind Map Studio macro.
3. Select the macro's **Edit** action.
4. Choose another Jira project, map, or display height.
5. Select **Embed Mind Map**.
6. Update the page.

## Remove the macro

1. Edit the Confluence page.
2. Select the Mind Map Studio macro.
3. Use Confluence's remove or delete action for the macro.
4. Update the page.

Removing the macro from a page does not delete the Jira mind map.

## No Jira projects are available

Confirm that:

- You are signed in with an Atlassian account that can use the Jira project and Confluence page.
- You can open the Jira project directly.
- Mind Map Studio is installed and available for the Jira site and Confluence.

Then reopen the macro configuration.

## No mind maps are available

1. Open the selected project in Jira.
2. Open Mind Map Studio.
3. Create or open a project-wide map.
4. Wait until it shows **Saved**.
5. Return to Confluence and reopen the macro configuration.

## The map is unavailable

1. Confirm that the map still exists in the selected Jira project.
2. Confirm that you can still browse that project.
3. Edit the macro and select the project and map again.
4. Update and reload the Confluence page.

If the problem continues, record the error code shown in the viewer and use the normal Mind Map Studio support option.

## The map has not been prepared for Confluence

If the viewer says the map was created before Confluence integration was enabled:

1. Open and view that map in Mind Map Studio in Jira.
2. Wait until the map finishes loading and shows **Saved**.
3. Reload the Confluence page.

If the message remains, choose another project-wide map and report the displayed error code.

## A private map was selected

Remove the macro from the draft page and do not publish it. The current selector does not make a private map safe to embed or provide an access guarantee. Wait for the publication hold to be resolved, then choose a map independently confirmed as project-wide in Jira.
